I realize that different parts of the country do things different, but if you can share what you know I would appreciate it.
Messages: 1, I've seen a guy with a Fecon on his RC I've never spoken to him so I can't help you with the performance or billing rate, however, it does throw another manufacturer out there. Good luck. DigdeepAug 27, Messages: I like the simplicity of the design and the apparent ease of use and getting better access to stumps in tight areas.
However, I'm wondering if the RC50 would get too stressed trying to run a stump grinder, especially one like the SSS where it has no stabilizers. The spring loaded mechanism and bypass circuit on the SSS model would seem like it would prevent you from over-stressing it and consequently the loader. Just wondering if you had purchased one and had any experience with it. I have not yet. I got side tracked on the thing and have not bought one yet.
I like the design of that one as wll. You must log in or sign up to reply here. Share This Page Tweet. Your name or email address: Do you already have an account? No, create an account now. Yes, my password is: Forgot your password?Forums New posts Search forums.

A buddy of mine has a bobcat model. He doesn't mind it But it was a much smaller wheel, less teeth and probably less flow. Jeff Kowell said:. Suppose to be. We will see. Buy a used one and sell it when your done. New member here, I've browsed the forums a lot in the past but never commented on anything, but hey, you've got to start somewhere. I own a small land clearing business here in North Louisiana and figured I'd give you my 2 cents on your dilemma.
My advice would be to purchase a mid size trackhoe k lbs and a smaller dozer with a rake k lbsdig all your stumps, knock the dirt off of them, shove them into piles with the dozer and burn, burn, burn! You should have enough logging slash left to get plenty of fires going hot enough to burn the stumps up. If you don't mind digging a few pits, I understand if you don't those things work like magic for burning stumps. As long as you're using the rake you won't hurt your topsoil at all.
If you've got the time, digging and burning is by far the way to go in my opinion. With those two machines I can easily knock out at least an acre a day, on the lighter stuff even close to two acres a day.
Your diesel cost will still be about the same, and probably maintenance costs too, if you buy older equipment mid 90s. I'd put a pencil to it and see how you come out, I think you'll be very surprised!
Hope that helps!
I agree that it is sometimes the best option even though I offer "no-burn" solutions for most jobs. Even in rural parts of Texas, neighbors can shut you down if you are within feet of a structure or the smoke is hanging or drifting at ground level and conditions have to be right though most of the time it's not enforced except near cities. It's a huge liability here. The state law says that fires cannot be unattended and must be out by dark and if they are within ft of a residence or structure and someone is sensitive to it.
Of course, everyone burns everything around here but there are a lot of misconceptions about burning and most insurance policies that I've seen for equipment frown on "pushing fire.Pigroast uncertainty What are your thoughts? First off, while a CTL is functional and profitable, the cooling intake sits on top waiting for leaves and debris to land on it.
The mulcher set up is a nightmare. The grease fittings are on top of the machine getting caked with debris, and the worst thing ever is the recessed tooth bolts have heads which quickly get exposed and half worn requiring drill out when the sidewall gets worn down. Also stumpex has horrible performance. Anyone who tells you otherwise is probably trying to sell you something. Any normal stump grinder will outperform the stumpex if not in the actual grind, then absolutely for the end result and clean up.
So this brings me to my real question Half this game is finding enough business to stay alive. And competing with the big boys is expensive. My niche business has been catering to homeowners that have too small a land to interest loggers. Usually under 3 acres.
Those prove difficult on tiny CTL tracks and any type of knife teeth. Also weight constraints has me limited to a maximum of 25, pounds.Ed25519 encryption
Anything more is a logistical small operation limitation. This put my limits at about hp for any machine accept Plaisance and gyro-trac. But I have heard bad things about both those companies parts, service and specifically gyros non-steel track system. So this even further closes in on my options. Considering all I have said, I am looking for other persons out there running similar set ups for similar purposes.
I am leaning toward the Lamtrac with a cimaf head with a mix of carbides and center blades. Also I have never used a cimaf head with carbides.Forum Rules. Home Forums Reviews Articles Store.Spike tooth harrow images

I've been lurking in here for a while and just reading as much as I can. I really appreciate you guys sharing your experience and advice.
Second, my situation: I bought about acres of land that used to be a farm and I'd like to return it to thatbut had been abandoned for about 40 years.
It turned into quite a forest and selling the timber rights was what enabled me to make the purchase and not eat romen noodles every meal for the next 20 years. That was a good thing. However, the final product left by the timber guys is far from what I'd hoped for: The front 10 acres first three pictures is a disaster, including those two large piles that were never chipped or ground.
The rest looks like the last two pictures. Not ideal, but not the worst I probably couldn't have expected much better. What I'd love to do is remove all stumps at least level with the ground, but preferably deeper and not lose the topsoil. I've asked around a lot and I've gotten some consistent advice: hire someone to mulch it.
I've also spoken with the guy that everyone says is the best, cheapest, most efficient, and one of only two guys in the area that can do it he has a Tigercat with FAE mulcher. I figure once I'm done with my land, I can start up a land clearing business too given that the guys I talked to were all so busy that they wouldn't be able to start on my land for at least months. So there's a lot of demand out there and I should know what I'm doing after working on my own place for a while.
I don't have experience with skid steers, but I have family with a large timber business and my dad has run heavy equipment since he way a kid so I wouldn't be completely on my own.Schedule change forms
So my questions would be: 1. Based on the pictures, is it feasible to mulch everything on my land with a CAT d and Fecon mulcher? What about those slash piles? Is it reasonable to think that I could do it cheaper myself, assuming I get a good deal on the equipment and either start a business afterward or sell the equipment on? Does anyone know anything about the Fecon Stumpex? It seems like a great idea to me, but it's also not on the market yet and I can't find anything on the internet about it except for Fecon's marketing material.Forums New posts Search forums.
Thread starter kellytrimming Start date Mar 26, Tags fabrication mini skid steer stump grinder welding. I subcontract all my stump grinding to my buddy Jim. He sent me this youtube video and suggested we could build one for my Thomas 25g:. Merle Nelson Well-Known Member. Can you easily try it at 5 degrees before switching to 15? L00ks interesting. Hey Merle, I think I will field test the current design at about 5 degree bite angle before adjusting it.
It might fail, but if I fail to grind a stump with this approach I will alter it and try again. I have had a lot more failures than successes, but it makes me so excited to stretch for a success. Sounds good. I have seen the commercial designs of this type of stump cutter and often wondered how chipper knives would hold up.
Best of luck to you. By way of interest have you seen the different yet still vertical approach called the Stump Gun? It's up on Brush Bandits website. I would think the perfect attack angle of the blades would be the actual angle of the "thread" on the cone or maybe slightly shallower.
